DIY – How to fix makeup in a broken compact
You don’t have to toss your powder, blush or eye shadow when it crumbles in its compact. Here are easy peasy steps to fixing it, so it’s as good as new. WHAT YOU’LL NEED: • Rubbing alcohol • Broken compact • plastic wrap • Spoon 1. Use the cap of the rubbing alcohol to pour the solution into your makeup compact. This will allow you more control, so you don’t overdo it. 2. Start with smaller amount of rubbing alcohol, adding just enough to so it absorbs the makeup. 3. Mix it in. If you want a smooth top, put a small piece of plastic wrap over the makeup, press down on it with a spoon. (If you prefer, swap the plastic wrap and spoon and smooth it down with your finger.) 4. Let it settle overnight. The alcohol evaporates and doesn’t leave a smell. The next day, your makeup is ready.

The 5 Most Common Mascara Mistakes
Piling on a zillion coats: Or even five. Most mascaras are only meant to be layered a few times. The more you put on, the more likely it will dry mid-application. When you put fresh mascara on top of a dry coat, it’s only going to clump and look spidery. Pumping the wand: All that does is pump excess air into the tube which causes clumps and flakes—which then turns into clumps and flakes on your lashes. Keeping it too long: If you can’t remember when you bought your mascara, toss it. The germs that grow in old mascaras can cause redness, itchiness, and even sties or pinkeye. Yup, we made that face, too. Exposed Roots: If you carefully wiggle your mascara at the base of your lashes, you get a gold star. Everyone else: Start doing it. “If you don’t get mascara at the roots, your lashes look shorter than they are,” says makeup artist Diane Kendal. Too Much Muscle: Press too hard at the base, and “you get brush marks on your lids. And it looks like you put mascara on in a car,” says makeup artist Jillian.
If you think makeup trends are only about colour, think again. Facial features, too, fall in and out of fashion—and the ’00s craze for plump, Angelina Jolie-style lips has shifted to an obsession with longer, darker, thicker lashes …just ask Kim Kardashians The appeal isn’t hard to explain, says Anna Nenoiu, a makeup and hair artist with Page One Management in Toronto. “Every woman knows that emphasizing her lashes brightens her eyes and makes them look bigger. No matter what your age, it gives you a more dramatic, seductive, pulled-together look.” A-listers, of course, have always known this. Twiggy, Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor were all famous for their fluttery fringes, and Nenoiu asserts that no modern starlet, from Katy Perry to Gwyneth Paltrow, would dare grace a red carpet without a set of extensions or at least falsies. – Read more
Want Plumper Lips ?
We all aspire to have luscious lips. Many of us would give an arm and a leg to get pouty lips like Angelina Jolie . If you are one of those women who have thin lips but don’t want to spend a mint getting regular injections done, here are a few things to do to cosmetically enhance what you have … Topical Lip plumpers are the easiest way to give your thin lips a boost. Select one which has a collagen booster such as peptides. One of my favorites is Lip Fusion by Fusion Beauty Or Smashbox’s O-Plump Intuitive Lip Plumper. Go out of bounds with your lip liner. Apply lip liner just a bit outside your lip line. You have to be really precise with this. Go overboard and you venture into drag queen territory. Run your lipstick over the lip liner so that it doesn’t stand out and looks natural. Apply a shimmery highlighter just a little above your upper lip line and blend it well. You can also use a white or lighter colored shimmery pencil to rim the upper edges of your lip line just above where you place your color. You can also dab a bit of highlighter powder or a pale lip gloss, such as Too Faced Glamour Gloss in Barely Legal, just in the center of your upper & lower lips to create the effect of fuller lips as shown here on Scarlet Johansson . This will create the illusion of a plumper pout.
Get More Mileage Out Of Your False Eyelash Glue
False lashes look glamorous, but sometimes applying the glue can get a little messy. Instead of applying the glue right on the lashes, place a tiny amount of glue behind your hand. Then, apply the glue to the lashes by running them over the glue you put on your hand. This will make clean up a little easier & you can conserve glue this way.
Trouble lining those lashes ?
Get a little shaky when you apply eyeliner? Try drawing a series of dashes along your lash line first, then go over the line a second time to connect the dots. Voila, a smooth line with less hassle.
